Today, Americans everywhere will be paying tribute to members of the Armed Forces as we celebrate Veterans Day. We are fortunate to have many veterans working in Alief ISD. They are working as teachers, coaches, principals, police officers, JROTC instructors, in our mail rooms and much more. I am truly appreciative for the veterans in our district.

We are encouraging staff members to take time today to honor their co-workers who are veterans or members of the National Guard or Reserves. Today is certainly an appropriate time to thank them for their dedicated and loyal service to our country and to our students. To our veterans, let me thank you for the sacrifices you have made for our country and let me thank you for what you do every day to help our students.

I also want us to keep in mind the many former Alief ISD students who are now serving in the military and the sacrifices they make on a daily basis to protect our freedom.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of seeing a large number of our students honor our country during the Hastings High School Marine Corps JROTC traditional cake-cutting ceremony. This ceremony was performed in celebration of the U.S. Marine Corps 239th birthday. I cannot begin to describe how proud I felt as the almost 300 cadets performed their battalion level ceremony with precision (pictured below).

Thanks again to our veterans and to those currently serving in the military.
